New industrial strength Ethernet Switches and Media Converters from
RuggedCom RuggedCom has added two new product lines to their
portfolio of Ethernet hardware that include the RS900 family of
fully managed switches and the RMC40 family of switched media
converters.
The RuggedSwitch™ RS900 family supports
up to 9 ports in numerous combinations of fiber and copper
configurations. The RS900 provides reliable performance in harsh
environments and exceeds the electro-magnetic interference (EMI)
immunity and temperature requirements specified for industrial and
traffic control environments.
Management features of the RS900 include: Rapid
Spanning Tree (802.1w) for fault tolerance, Quality of Service
(802.1p) for real-time traffic, Port Rate Limiting. VLAN (802.1q)
for traffic segregation with double tagging, IGMP Snooping for
multicast filtering, Loss of link management for link pulse control
on fiber ports, SNMP v2 and RMON.

The new RuggedSwitch™ RMC40 family of
Ethernet switches can support 4 ports that provide both
copper-to-fiber media conversion as well as 10Mbps to 100Mbps speed
conversion. Like all RuggedCon products, the RMC40 is specifically
designed to operate reliably in electrically and climatically harsh
environments it is well suited for use in mission critical Ethernet
networking applications.
The versatility and wide selection of fiber
optics allows the RMC40 to be used in a variety of applications. It
can be used in place of traditional copper-to-fiber media converters
with the added ability to convert speed from 10Mbps to 100Mbps. With
dual fiber optics, daisy chaining of Ethernet enabled devices can
easily be accomplished. For the most demanding of systems, a
dual-redundant fiber optic connection can be created for a device
that only offers a single 10/100TX port.
