AutoIP is an optional feature of
IntraVUE™ that can automatically assign “fixed” IP
addresses to replacement equipment, eliminating the potential
for erroneous IP configurations or the need for special cables,
tools and complex software.
Even with all the necessary information
at hand, it can be difficult for even the most experienced
technician to properly replace a failed Ethernet device.
Thanks to AutoIP, the task of replacing a failed
Ethernet device is now easier than working with most
fieldbus networks:
| |
Step 1: |
Remove
the failed device and disconnect its network cable.
|
| |
Step 2:
|
Replace
the failed device with a spare unit, reattach the
network cable and then apply power.
|
| |
Step 3: |
Relax
as AutoIP assigns the IP address previously used
by the failed unit to the replacement unit. |
Simply stated, Auto-IP can:
-
Reduce downtime by eliminating
the process of identifying the IP address and manually
adding it in the replacement unit.
-
Increase safety in the
automation system by eliminating the potential for
erroneous IP configurations.
-
Increase security by
monitoring all devices on the network that are making
new IP address requests!
-
Reduce cost. As a vendor
neutral and fully compatible with DHCP services, this
solution reduces the added cost in both equipment and
support. Eliminating the complexity from modified Switch
configuration firmware and/or unique hardware.
